Virginia Personal Injury Attorney

Q: After I slipped and fell while shopping at a convenience store, my friend said I might have a tort case. What exactly is a tort?

Answer: Tort is a legal term for an injury to you or your property. It’s different from a crime, but still causes you harm. If someone attacks you physically, misuses or damages something you own, hurts your reputation unfairly, or takes away your freedom to act, then you have a tort case. To recover damages from a tort, you have to prove that the other party either committed the act on purpose, or that they were negligent. And you must prove that damages or injury occurred as a result.

Some examples of tort law include personal injury, wrongful death, defective products, and medical malpractice. O’Bryan Law specializes in just this type of law, and consultation is free. If you think you have a case, it is always wise to seek legal advice as soon as possible, while information is still fresh in your mind and any witnesses are still available.
